Our Processes

Coffee Mulching

01Husbandry

Humkel Coffee practices the use of mulching and leguminous cover crops to control farm weeds. We apply our farm-made manure, Liquid fertilizer, and vermi-tea consistently and continuously to all coffee plants.

02Bean Growth

This is achieved through continuous feeding of the coffee plants. The use of vermi tea is a major boost to our bean size and quality.

03Harvesting

Members of staff at Humkel are trained and guided to harvest strictly mature Red Coffee Berries.

04Sorting

Processes have been put in place to ascertain that a meticulous and thorough sorting is done through the following processes:

  1. Manual Sorting
  2. Floatation
  3. Water sorting after pulping

05Pulping

Pulping is done through the use of a 2000-per-hour disc pulper with a pregrader.
To ascertain clean and quality pulping the following operations are undertaken from time to time

  1. Timely adjustment and settings of the discs for efficient and qualitative pulping
  2. Coffee berries are pulped within 7 hours of harvesting
  3. Timely fermentation that is monitored very closely
  4. Final sorting of the beans on drying beds

06Coffee Parchment storage

Storage of parchment coffee is a store that has been constructed to high standards.
From time to time the coffee parchment is physically checked for any possible damage from water and any pests. Timely and appropriate action is taken if such a challenge is detected.
